MEMBERSHIP
Edge Cities partners within the EU countries or within the EU accession member countries will be seen as the core members of the Edge Cities Network. The Partners will strive to identify further members from the edge of capitals of EU Member States not yet represented.
For Edge Cities Network it is important to have many different partner municipalities. Therefore the Edge Cities Network is always open to new members.
Membership Fees:
€2500 p/a for new EU members
€4000 p/a for the old members.
Presidency
The role of the President is to represent the Edge Cities Network in relation to any external partners such as other relevant networks and institutions including in relation to the European Commission and Parliament and other EU institutions.
The presidency of the Edge Cities Network is the highest authority of the Network. The president should be an elected member from the Edge City authority, generally the Mayor or leader of the Council, except where other administrative arrangements prevail.
The presidency launches new themes of collaboration at its start, and these themes are to be elaborated further by having seminars/conferences during the presidency. The President should take advantage of this period to specifically promote the Edge Cities Network within his/her own authority and to the relevant regional/national authorities to gain ongoing support.
What members think
“Learning from other municipalities and looking into best practices has helped Ballerup to become a modern, dynamic and forward thinking municipality. Being able to share ideas and discuss common challenges and problems with peers from other edge cities in Europe promotes the development and the citizen services in our municipality.”
Mr. Ove E. Dalsgaard, Mayor of Ballerup. Member of the Edge Cities Network since 2000.
“Facing tougher economic times and greater demands from their citizens the European local governments will have to work and act together as a way to prepare for the future challenges. Working together and making networks across Europe will support the local governments in achieving a continuous urban development as well as it will support the cities in raising common issues for instance to the EU. The Edge Cities Network is a great example of such a framework already doing that.”
Mr. Steen Illeborg, Committee of the Regions. Director of Registry and Services to Members
“Pernik has joined the Edge Cities Network, as the Network’s activities and projects could help developing Pernik further. Pernik is a city in great development and only by taking part in projects and activities with other cities will we ensure that our city can continue to be an attractive and good place to live.”
Ms. Rositsa Yanakieva, Mayor of Pernik. Pernik became member of the Edge Cities Network in 2010.
